You Are Not God

A poem.

I cycle through my breaths

Emotions jerk and drop me, a

Cheap roller coaster at the fair

I tumble clumsily through moments, a

Fat hamster on the wheel of my thoughts

Sculpting my life in my mind, like

Building walls around me

.

All while

Before me and after me

You stand up there

Palms to the sky

You bask in rays of sun

You hold your chin high

And I can see

Peace curls the edges of your mouth

Crows feet pinch your face

.

Do not misread these words

You are not God

.

You are the wind that

Made the trees dance last night

Sunlight that

Makes leaves glow from the inside

Laughter of the cosmos that

Erupted when nobody was around, and

Echoes off the planets now, and

My planet, alien planet

.

You are grass at my feet

The chorus of birds that

Rang clear this morning

And reminded me

Of that other morning

When I was young, and

The day stretched out before me

Like the Cascade Mountains

Hollow and mysterious

But also like a Slip N Slide, and

.

Wow

I couldn’t wait to dive
