How to Fall in Love Again

A three-step guide.

Step one.

Forget all you’ve learned of love. Nothing of love can truly be learned; no experience of love is replicable. The memories you’ve stored away have turned stale. Their color has faded; their form is a weak and misleading indication of what it once was. Let them rest. Do not reopen them.

Step two.

Relieve yourself of the beliefs you’ve established in order to survive. They won’t help you anymore. Scrape away each layer of inhibition to become raw again. In rawness you will find hope. Like a child, practice curiosity, the way you knew how before your curiosity led to pain. Allow yourself to feel delight. This may take time.

Step three.

When love is ready, let her come to you anew, without definition or form. Do not define or anticipate her.

Allow her to take root in your awareness exactly as she is, and observe.
